This page gives information about funding available for students undertaking teacher training at Sussex in 2010/11.
Information about 2009/10 rates can still be found on the Direct Gov site for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
If you are an undergraduate home or EU student on a full-time course of Initial Teacher Training (ITT), you are eligible for tuition fee support on the same basis as other full-time undergraduates. This means that you may be eligible to apply to Student Finance England (SFE) for a Tuition Fee Loan to pay your fees. Home or EU students on part-time courses of ITT may be eligible for the same support available to other part-time undergraduates. This means you may be eligible to apply to SFE for a Fee Grant. For more information, have a look at our funding pages for part-time students.
If you are a home or EU national student studying full-time on a postgraduate course that leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), for example a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), you may be eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan to pay your fees. Home students should apply to Student Finance England, EU students to the Student Finance Services EU Team on (+44) (0) 141 243 3570.
Home or EU students studying part-time may be eligible for a Fee Grant to help pay your fees. Home students should apply to Student Finance England, EU students to the Student Finance Services EU Team on (+44) (0) 141 243 3570.

If you are a postgraduate home student on a full-time course of initial teacher training, you may be eligible for help with your living costs on the same basis as full-time home undergraduates. In addition, if you are a home or EU student studying full-time on a postgraduate course that leads to QTS, for example a PGCE, you may be eligible for a tax-free training bursary of up to £6,000 over your course if you are taking a secondary subject (up to £4,000 if you are taking a primary subject). For students taking secondary priority subject courses (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Design & Technology, ICT, Manufacturing, Mathematics or Diplomas in either IT, Engineering, Construction & the built environment, Environment & land based studies or Manufacturing & product design), the bursary will be up to £9,000 over your course. You do not need to apply as your school at Sussex will arrange the payments for you.

Home and EU students may also be eligible to receive a 'Golden Hello' payment of either £2,500 or £5,000 from the Training and Development Agency (TDA) if you complete a postgraduate ITT course and take up a permanent position teaching the subject you trained to teach in.
