► Housing benefit & University accommodation
Prior to 1st August 2004, students eligible to claim Local Housing Allowance (essentially a new version of Housing Benefit being piloted in the Brighton & Hove area) could only do so if they lived in privately-rented accommodation, NOT accommodation rented from universities (apart from during July and August of each year).
With effect from 1st August 2004, the Government has changed the regulations to allow certain full-time students to receive Local Housing Allowance throughout the year whilst living in university-managed accommodation. Click here to check if you are eligible.
