► Housing

Family accommodation on campus is limited and far from ideal. However it is cheaper than living in Brighton and has the obvious advantages of being near study resources. Please also bear in mind that there are lots of students living on campus and it can often be noisy.

If you have problems with your accommodation you can contact the Housing Office (click here) or the Student Advice Centre. If you have any problems with repairs or noise then contact the relevant Building Manager. The porters in these areas supply light bulbs, bin liners and toilet rolls free of charge.

As of 1 August 2004, if you belong to one of the groups of students who are eligible to claim Housing Benefit you will can claim Housing Benefit for University-owned accommodation throughout the year. [Prior to this date Housing Benefit could only be claimed on University-owned accommodation in July and August]. For details of those students who may be able to claim Housing Benefit click
here.

University-managed Family Flats

The University offers a limited number of small family flats situated around campus. The family flats are in Park Village, East Slope and Lewes Court. These flats are available for students with one or more children and they are normally only allocated to full-time undergraduates and postgraduates. Couples or single students who are expecting a child can make an application and may be offered a flat after priority cases have been dealt with.

Flats are let on a fixed term tenancy from September/ October until the end of July. Unfortunately the University makes no guarantees to applicants that there are flats available. A waiting list opens in January for applicants commencing courses in October of that year. There is considerable demand for places.

Consequently, you need to apply early in writing (contact details below).

Once your application has been received, you will be placed on a waiting list until a suitable flat becomes available.
