Amnesty International aim to promote human rights and an awareness of human rights abuses. It is an organisation that campaigns for freedom, fairness and justice, always by non-violent means, and generally by mass involvement. For example, it campaigns against torture and for the release of people who are imprisoned because their political views contradict those of their government. The methods of campaigning include: writing to politician involved in such cases; writing to prisoners to offer support to them and show opposition to those involved in the imprisoning; protesting; fundraising and educating. More information can be found at www.amnesty.org.uk/
It is easy to get involved both in the university society, and Amnesty International in general.
