The badger is your Union’s regular news publication, and is written and designed entirely by Sussex students. It aims to represent the views and interests of students and communicate the work of the Union, as well as informing members about local, national and international issues that effect them as students.
For students with an interest in current affairs, politics or arts news, the Badger can provide you with the opportunity to develop writing and designing skills that will be useful later in life.
Interested in writing for the Badger?
The badger writers' meeting is on Fridays at 5pm in room 126, first floor, Falmer House. Do not hesitate to come along to get in touch with one of the editors! You can also send suggestions for news/comment/arts/union articles to badger@ussu.sussex.ac.uk.
For more information, email badger@ussu.sussex.ac.uk or check the badger for the contact details of the section you're interested in.
Publicise your event!
If you, for instance, run a USSU society and you want your event listed in the What's On guide, email what's on editor Kalim Patel on kgp20@sussex.ac.uk before Tuesday the week before the actual date of your event.

Badger Manifesto
We, editorial team of the Badger 07-08, believe that the paper’s role within the student community is the spreading of information relevant to the student body, whilst airing the opinions and politics of students. Badger editors must therefore have a pluralistic outlook on many issues, but will take a stand, frank and unashamed of having an opinion.
Bold, provocative and creative in design and content, we believe the paper should function as a medium of expression, stirring up debate and providing a forum for dialogue on Sussex campus.
The Badger is pro-students and has a tradition of reporting on student issues and related campaigns. We will strive to achieve the highest journalistic standards possible, in a rigorous and professional way. This means we have to remain honest, reliable and critical of ourselves in the process of editing.
In a world where war, oppression, environmental destruction and racism are often justified, excused or hidden by the mass media, the Badger shall be a progressive voice.
The badger is a union publication but belongs to the student body. It should be loyal to our readers and accountable, focusing on the audience rather than the writers. Although the Badger is funded by USSU and ultimately by the University of Sussex, it is a paper made by students, for students. Students should at all times feel it is their paper and that they can contribute to it at any time.
