Better Student Housing
Last year, in response to Union lobbying, the University developed a voluntary code of standards for landlords advertising their properties through the University. The Code includes a robust and swift system for resolving disputes and enhanced safety standards for student housing. This year the University of Brighton adopted the Code and both Universities have now agreed to make the Code compulsory for all landlords advertising through the Universities from 2009/10.
Better Campaigning for you
Let Them Study was the Union campaign to allow students with outstanding tuition-fee debts the opportunity to sit their summer examinations. As a result of Union organised campaigning, all but one of the 40 students who approached the union for support last year gained permission to sit their summer examinations.
Better Library Access
After two years of lobbying the University agreed to a successful pilot of 24 hour library opening times. The Library is now open 24 hours a day during term time.
Better Communities
The Union administers over 420 community volunteering opportunities and last year 51 local organisations and community projects benefited from the contribution of Sussex University students.
Volunteering
The Union helped support more than 750 volunteers to run the Union, its services and organise activities for club and society members
Student Activities
Over 1000 students took part in a sport they enjoy last year. USSU Sport has over 1000 members taking part in 21 different sports all funded and supported by the Union
Over 1500 students received support from the Union to do the stuff they love by running over 150 different societies.

Advice
Last year over 1530 students received welfare and academic advice from our advice centre.
Students receive over £10,000 in wages and grants every week of every term
Where you shop makes a difference to what goes on at Sussex because the Union’s trading activities in the bars, shops and club provide employment for almost 200 students and any profits are put back into services such as our advice centre and grants to student societies

The six full time officers that you elect in the biggest Union election of the country sit on over 100 meetings every year arguing your corner. If you've got something you need said, come see us in Falmer House, it's what we're for.
In 2007/08 because of the Union...
Students have an extra £50,000 for entertainments every year
We lobbied intensively last year and as a result we’ve got an extra £50,000 a year for entertainments: half is being used to employ a full time marketing and events manager and the rest is to spend on you.
Work is marked and returned within 15 days
We lobbied hard last year to get work returned to you within the 15 day deadline, today it's being enforced. If you're still having problems e-mail education@ussu.sussex.ac.uk
The University is reviewing its academic appeals system to make it fairer
We also lobbied to persuade the University that its appeals process was unfair to students. It has now agreed to look at the system and review its processes. If you need advice on an appeal e-mail education@ussu.sussex.ac.uk

The campus is a cleaner, greener, friendlier place
