► Football Women Club Information

The Women's Football Club have gone from strength to strength and in 2007/08 are launching a 2nd team

Team of the Year 2001/02 & Most Improved Club 2003/04

The University of Sussex Women’s Football Club is divided into two teams, both of which play in the BUCS Southeastern conference: leagues 2B and 3A respectively.
Last year the first team was very close to coming first in their league and winning promotion but sadly lost their chances at the very end of the season. The seconds continue to play and strengthen their team a league below them.

Whether you’ve been playing all your life or you just want to try it out, our club will welcome you into one of our two teams so don’t hesitate to come along to one of our Welcome Sessions during Fresher’s Fortnight and make sure you look out for our stall at Fresher’s Fair!

Matches are played on Wednesday afternoons either at home up at the Falmer Sports Complex, or away at other universities in our area. Wednesdays are also highlighted in our calendars as big nights out with other sports teams. We head into town and dance the night away in one of Brighton’s biggest night clubs.

Some of the highlights of the year for our team are: Varsity, which is when Sussex play Brighton in one of the most important matches of the season and the rivalry between the two university teams comes to a head. Old Girls is a day full of laughs when Sussex graduates who used to play for the team do their very best to beat the current team. There is a surprising amount of good-natured rivalry which makes the match really special and winning is a question of honour.
Every year our club takes part in a European tour with the rest of Sussex Sport. It is guaranteed to be one of the best weeks of your life if you’re up for banter and funnels!
