Objectives: To offer a chance to play the game of poker, all skill levels welcome, at an affordable price in a friendly environment, whilst offering an opportunity to meet people with a similar interest.
The University of Sussex Poker Society was the brainchild of Sam Newman who, aggrieved at the limited opportunities to play poker on campus, set up the society in mid-2009. He was joined by the James's Hickie and Hinton, and together they put on the first £5 NLHE Freezeout on the 7th October. Over 70 students turned up and some had to be turned away at the door. In its short existence the society has been blooming, attracting over 40 members and offering friendly but competitive weekly games. James Hickie, Will Eyre and Ciaran Walls attended the GUKPT Student championship in Blackpool on November 11th 2009 and the society sent a team to compete at the UK Student Poker Championship in April 2010, with Sam finishing a credible 18th out of 360 runners.
Games take place on Wednesday evenings in the Falmer House Common Room, University of Sussex camupus, at 6:30pm, with registration from 6:15.
