Sussex’s six full-time ("sabbatical") officers are elected by cross-campus ballot every February, and take office from June until June the following year. The President is the main spokesperson for the Union and oversees every area of Union activity. The other officers have specific remits and represent you in different ways. The Education Officer, for example, runs campaigns and works with students to ensure that we all get the teaching we deserve and that we are graded fairly and equally. Similarly, the Communications Officer is responsible for Union publicity, and as such has to make sure that you are informed about Union issues, and local and national developments that effect students.
Sabbatical Officers get paid a basic wage, and are still classed as students whilst they are in office. Anyone can stand for any of the positions – look out for publicity early on in the spring term and more info at www.ussu.info/elections
Keep up to date with what your Sabbatical Officers are upto on Sabb Shout, regularly updated live blogs on Sabb Shout give you the opportunity to see what the Sabbaticals are doing and what's happening in the Union, it also gives you the opportunity to feedback directly to the Sabbs!

As the Finance Officer I’m in charge of looking after the Unions funds and making sure we spend the our budget on want you want! I’m also the director of the Union Company, which runs all the bars and shops on campus, and, as a result, I ensure that every penny you spend in our outlets is reinvested back into students. So if you ever need advice or support for your clubs or societies finances, or just want to know how your money is being spent, then send us an email or come by our offices anytime. Just remember this is your Union and you decide how it runs, so get involved!

It is easy for a small voice to be lost in a big institution; the union is here to make sure that doesn't happen. As education officer I am here to guide and advise students through the various hurdles that may come up. Whether it be in the form of representation during academic misconduct or appealing academic decision made by the university. This year I am hoping to revitalise the student rep scheme to make sure that the student agenda gets to the top of everyone's agenda.

I can offer you confidential advice on any difficulties or concerns you may face and I will continuously campaign on welfare-related issues affecting students. I'm here to try and make your time at university as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, so please come and see me if you think I can help in any way.
