► SMuTS History
SMuTS was formed in 1991 and has enjoyed a rich history of musical performance. However, due to the high member turn-around that any University society naturally experiences, few members ever remember more than 3 years of production history*
Nevertheless, everyone in the society in any one year has worked with a senior someone who has a few more pieces of the SMuTS history puzzle. Still more details can be found floating around the internet, in the University's news archives and on the occasional promotional website set up for an old production. By following this trail (and with the creation of the SMuTS group on networking site facebook) it has been possible to reach back into the past and learn the 17 year history of the society, plotting a history of the major productions and putting a few others in context as well.
The work here is still not done though. It is my hope that this page will grow into a comprehensive record of past productions, with branching pages for these musicals and contributions from those involved in them. My own experience is of the 2006 to 2008 musicals, so clearly, help will be needed! Corrections to the timeline and more advanced information are always very welcome. | SMuTS performs an annual production in the Spring Term. Until 2008, these productions were performed in the Gardner Arts Centre on Sussex University's Campus. Since then, shows have been performed in the Old Market Theatre, Hove. |
