► About Sussex Socialist Students
The Sussex Socialist Student Society is affiliated to the national organisation, Socialist Students which runs campaigns in the interests of students and young people everywhere. We aim to raise the ideas of Socialism through democratic discussion, debate and campaigning. We hold weekly meetings discussing socialist theory and both historical and current events relevant to the struggle of students and young workers. Other events include public meetings, including debates with other political societies on campus; stalls to advertise our ideas, events and campaigns; and a termly social event. Members can expect to be regularly updated on meetings and campaigns by a committee dedicated to the cause and to building a successful society. The year will consist of an exciting and informative programme of discussions and events as well as an active social scene. Highlights include a weekend in London for ’Socialism 2008’; a national event consisting of discussion and debate with high profile speakers, organised by the Socialist Party. Also, the Campaign to Defeat Fees is a national campaign run by Socialist Students and we participate in the annual week of action on this issue which has had widespread success with students all over the country.
